Leak Testing Training and Certification Services

Description

Croft has more than 30 years of experience in leak testing for the nuclear industry. We developed our own leakage tester, the CALT®, specifically to perform pre-shipment leakage tests in accordance with ISO 12807 and ANSI N14.5. In addition to testing our own packages, we support a variety of other transport packages and non-nuclear items with our expertise in Mass Spectrometer, Pressure Change and Bubble leak testing.

Croft Associates also provides structured leak test training, examination and certification programme aligned with SNT-TC-1A. The programme supports the personnel qualification requirements of ANSI N14.5 and ISO 12807, with a client-specific written practice covering education, training, experience, examination and certification.

Designed for organisations that need personnel qualified to carry out package-specific leak testing to approved procedures, the programme combines technical instruction, practical work, examinations and a defined route to certification.

Training Techniques

• Bubble Leak Testing (BLT) – typically used for periodic and maintenance testing of Type A packages and inserts.
• Pressure Change Leak Testing (PCLT) – typically used for pre-shipment testing of Type B packages, including use of the CALT® Leakage Tester.
• Mass Spectrometer Leak Testing (MSLT) – typically used for periodic and maintenance testing of Type B packages, usually with helium tracer gas.

Training Course Options

• BLT Level II Limited — 2 hours — delivered with another course
• PCLT Level I Limited — 12 hours — includes fundamentals of leak testing, PCLT methods, examinations and CALT® practical work
• PCLT Level II Limited — 24 hours — includes fundamentals of leak testing, PCLT methods, PCLT equations, examinations and practical work
• MSLT Level II Limited — 40 hours — includes fundamentals of leak testing, vacuum systems, MSLT methods, MSLT equations, examinations and practical work

• Training hours tracked under a programme approved by Croft’s responsible NDT Level III.

• Client written practice prepared in line with SNT-TC-1A.

Certification

For many package specific applications, Level II Limited provides a practical route to certification. It enables unsupervised testing to approved procedures while reducing the associated training and experience requirements. Certification requires the specified training and supervised experience, successful examinations, and recertification every five years.
