Croft has commenced manufacture for supply of a new SAFSHIELD® 2999 packaging to a US client

The manufacture will complete in Q2 2027. The SAFSHIELD® 2999 packaging comprises an inner 2993 Flask – a robust, welded stainless-steel construction incorporating 220 mm of lead shielding, housed within an outer casket (Design No. 2999) that provides impact and thermal protection. The package is designed and approved as a Type B(U) package, primarily for the transport of radioactive sources and targets which are used in medical and industrial applications.

The scope of the project includes development of new internal furniture to accommodate the client-specific content and re-licensing through US DOE for a range of new content types. To accommodate the potentially large numbers of radionuclides that will arise within irradiated targets, the Monte Carlo (MCNP) shielding assessment will utilise an energy band approach.

In addition to the packaging supply and licensing, Croft will develop a pre-shipment leakage test procedure, using the CALT®10, and training of the client’s operational staff to SNT-TC-1A by our ASNT Level III qualification holder, Adam McConaghy.
