IP-2 For Type B Intermediate Level Waste
These waste packages are intended for contents that do not met LSA or SCO requirements and for transport require a Type B transport package.
These waste packages are designed to be compatible with the dimensions and handling features of the equivalent waste packages specified by RWMD NDA (3 cubic metre box, 3 cubic metre drum and 500 litre drum) and can be transported in the SWTC which is the RWMD NDA Type B transport package (reference RWMD NDA Generic Waste Package Specification - see NDA website).
The Safbox, manufactured in ductile cast iron, provides efficient integral shielding for on-site storage for unshielded waste packages (e.g. 3 cubic metre boxes, 500 litre drums and 3 cubic metre drums), and provides a viable alternative to storing such packages in shielded facilities pending transport and disposal, or further processing.
