Products for shipment in USA
Licensing Requirements for Type B Packages to be shipped in the USA
For shipments of Type B packages in the USA, the licensing requirements depend on whether the shipments are entirely within the USA or are international. These are explained below
International shipments
For internationals shipments to or from the USA of packages approved outside the USA, a foreign Competent Authority certificate of package approval is required together with a DOT revalidation certificate. These packages do not need NRC package design approval.
The following Croft Transport Packages (Type B) have DOT revalidations:
- 2799E
- 2835A
- 2773A
For NRC approved packages, a DOT “IAEA Certificate” is required.
Croft Transport Package that has been approved by the NRC and also has a DOT “IAEA Certificate” is the 3979A – this package is intended to be used where the now obsolete DOT 6M package would previously have been used.
NRC approval of the Croft 3977A package, which is similar to the 3979A but has a higher capacity, is expected in 2012 – this package is intended to be used where the now obsolete DOT 20WC package would previously have been used.
National shipments [ie within the USA]
For nationals shipments within the USA (where the package is loaded, shipped and opened without leaving the mainland USA), a certificate issued by the NRC or DOE is required.
