Designed as a Reusable Type A Package to the IAEA Regulations for the Safe Transport of Radioactive
Materials 1996 Edition (Revised) No TS-R-1 (ST-1, Revised).
Licensed by Croft Associates Ltd as a Type A Package for the carriage of radionuclides in liquid form syringes with absorber or sealed vials in lead shielded pots where required.
Approval Certificate No 2767G/A-96.
Other forms of radioactive material and/or primary packaging can be carried subject to a satisfactory safety review.
Package Design No. 2767G is designed on traditional engineering principles and manufactured from
stainless steel and brass to give a long service life. The package consists of an outer Container Drum
Design No. 2767 which carries a resealable inner Containment Can Design No. 2797 within shock absorbing
packing.
The Container Drum Design No. 2767 has a pressed stainless steel body and lid with a bayonet action closure.
The Inner Container Design No. 2797 is a resealable stainless steel containment vessel.
The resealable Inner Container Design No. 2797 provides the containment system for the package. The
lid of the container has a 'O'-ring seal with an interspace between the 'O'-ring seals; the interspace facilities
leak testing to ensure that the seals achieve the prescribed levels of leaktightness.
Radioactive material in liquid, gas or solid form. A variety of sealed primary containers can be used with liquid contents (eg, vials). Absorbent material must be used with primary containers that are not sealed (eg syringes).
Liquid contents are limited to a maximum volume of 500 cm3 when packed in sealed primary containers and 140 cm3 when packed in non-sealed primary containers.
Maximum contents weight of Can Design No. 2797, including additional shielding, is 12.6kg.
The contents are also limited to A1 for material in special form and A2 for other material, with the additional requirement that the external radiation levels of the package, as loaded and presented for transport, are within regulatory limits.
